Here is what some actual buyers had to say about this keyboard, these are genuine comments

Razer BlackWidow Ultimate Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

I really like this product, it’s the only mechanical type I have owned but it’s so easy to type on, the keys feel nice too.

Macros can be programmed too, so that can be really handy even if you don’t use them for gaming.

I made the mistake of buying mine directly from Razer, I wish that I hadn’t bothered and gone to Amazon instead, when it eventually arrived one month later, one of the LED’s were broken, without going into details, the customer service at Razer leaves me unimpressed the less I have to deal with them the better, nevertheless this is still a fine product and I love it.

I bought this keyboard because I wanted a unit with mechanical keys and backlights, I was expecting the key presses to be quite hard to press compared to membrane types but these are just great, they don’t make too much noise either compared to some.

I found the three levels of lighting to be just right depending on the conditions this can be easily adjusted.

The one thing I didn’t like was the weird typeface Razer have used for the key letters, if you’re not a typist these can be hard to make out for some of the letters.

One thing to note is that all the special characters along the upper row have the numbers printed above the symbols, this is a bit strange at first, but of course this keyboard is for gamers who use the number keys a lot, and it’s the numbers that get illuminated not the characters.

No CD comes with this keyboard, the drivers have to be downloaded from the Razer website.

Razer BlackWidow Ultimate Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

Price-wise this keyboard isn’t particularly cheap, it’s quite heavy and well built, but compared to some of the competition is does offer backlighting and macro programming.

The keys are Cherry MX blues on this unit, so as a lot of gamers prefer ‘browns’ for operational preference this may put a few off, the keys have a nice action, not too noisy and with a nice tactile quality.

The backlighting is good with three different intensity levels to suit the user.

The software to assign macros is pretty good and simple to use, and each key can be programmed to suit, the macro keys also be assigned to have a toggling function, this can be pretty useful in some situations.

I wanted a keyboard to type with that I could also use for gaming if that fits your criteria you should definitely try this one, if on the other hand you are only a casual user then you probably look at something else, the keys are really leaning toward gaming.

This is an super keyboard is for gaming and for people who do lots of typing like me.

I have not been using it for long but already I find I am typing for accurately and with greater speed, it is the best keyboard I have used in twenty plus years.

It is reasonably quiet for a unit that uses mechanical keys, but don’t expect it to be as quiet as membrane keys.

There is backlighting on this model that can be adjusted for brightness, three levels, although some of the special character keys are not lit.

The keyboard comes with four braided cables with gold plate ends, these are for headset, mic, USB connector for the keyboard, and a USB pass-through. my first thought was the pass-through would give me an extra USB port, but this is not the case.

From a purely personal view I would prefer a deeper rest for the wrist.

Software for this product needs a download from the Razer site.

My tip: keep the plastic transit covering it’s brilliant as a dust cover and fits perfect. I give this product 5 stars.

So you can see there has been plenty of good feedback about this product, it was actually quite a good move for Razer because it is sitting in a price range that has no competition, nearly all other mechanical boards are much more expensive and do not offer the same gaming facilities as what you get with the Razer.

There are two however that sneak in under the radar and are probably not that widely known as both are fairly recent products.

There is the Zowie Celeritas which costs a little more than the Blackwidow and the MEKA G1 from Thermaltake that costs a little less you might just want to take a look at these before making a final decisio

Razer Blackwidow Model Differences – Update

Seemingly the Blackwidow keyboard has become very popular and Razer have not been slow to update with variations on the basic models, as they have added three more to this range.

These are the same keyboards but have fancy graphics added to the shell, there is the Dragon Age 2 version and a further one for Battlefield 3, they both look pretty cool but that fancy artwork will set you back another $10 or so on the price of the basic Ultimate.

There is yet another new model now available and that is the Blackwidow Ultimate Stealth, which has some extra anti-ghosting capability.

Dang! even while typing this I have found two more versions, looks like I will have to start another page.

For now though if you are still undecided three other possibilities for you around this price range are the Tt eSports MEKA G1 which seems to be picking up a following the Zowie Celeritas likewise and the Xarmor U9, they may all be a little better built but cannot match the Razer for features.
